The Celtic cross was imprinted right on the word partisan. On Liberation Day the stone of Taranto partisan Pietro Pandiani, hero of the Resistance, was scarred with a Celtic cross imprinted with black paint. The president of the provincial ANPI Riccardo Pagano expressed his shock at the incident.
The discovery was made this morning in the area of Lungomare Vittorio Emanuele III during the ceremony of laying the laurel wreath in memory of Pandiani, among the protagonists of the liberation struggle who fought against the Nazi-fascists in the mountains of the Upper Valle del Reno, in Emilia Romagna. The official ceremony for the anniversary of the Liberation Day was presided over by the prefect of Taranto, Paola Dessì, accompanied by the Interregional Southern Maritime commander, Team Admiral Vincenzo Montanaro, and took place in Piazza della Vittoria.
