Francavilla Fontana, critical issues of the “Camberlingo” hospital: “clarifying” meeting with the ASL

FRANCAVILLA FONTANA – The mayor of Francavilla Fontana, Antonello Denuzzo, and the regional councilor Maurizio Bruno met this morning (Wednesday 24 April 2024) at the offices of the ASL of Brindisi with the general director of the health company Maurizio De Nuccio and the health director Loredana Carulli, to represent the concerns of the municipal administration and citizens regarding the future of the Francavilla Fontana “Dario Camberlingo” hospital.

For some time now the Francaville hospital has been going through critical moments due to the lack of staff which puts at risk the operation of the departments, the efficiency of the service and forces the doctors present to work shifts and exhausting pressure. During the long meeting, the general director De Nuccio provided clarifications to the requests, point by point, advanced by Denuzzo and Bruno, in particular on the future of the General Surgery, Orthopedics and of course Obstetrics and Gynecology departments. The management has guaranteed that there is no intention to weaken the hospital, much less to close departments.

Regarding the transfer to the Perrino in Brindisi of a doctor from the general surgery department of the Francavilla hospital, the general director explained that it was an emergency mobility lasting 30 days, but at the end of this period the same doctor will return to Francavilla. To avoid the recurrence of similar cases, the management has published a notice for the recruitment of fixed-term staff to be assigned to the Perrino hospital.

With regard to the Orthopedics department, the general director announced that the competition for the arrival of five units in Francavilla (one specialist and four specialists) has been completed, as envisaged in the recruitment plan approved by the Region for 2024. Positive news is have also been communicated by the management for the Obstetrics and Gynecology department: in the next few days a new notice for the hiring of five units will be published on Burp. Interested parties will have 20 days to submit their application.

In relation to the intensive care unit, an incoming mobility procedure is underway, which should guarantee the arrival of a new staff unit in a short time. Finally, for the Consultancy, the ASL is evaluating the movement of staff from the degraded headquarters in via Barbaro Forleo to the new offices in Piazza Dimitri, while for the Sert the municipal administration will hold a new joint inspection on May 8th in some municipal buildings , with the aim of identifying, together with the local health authority, a suitable location.

“We had requested this meeting urgently – says the mayor Antonello Denuzzo – more than ten days ago, but personal impediments of the general director De Nuccio led to the postponement until today. It was a useful conversation which allowed us to represent to the ASL management the citizens’ concerns about the future of a hospital which for us must become a center of excellence and certainly not be dismantled. The reassurances, even very detailed ones, provided by the general director comfort us We intend to remain satisfied until the commitments are followed by concrete actions. Therefore, we will continue to pay close attention and follow all the guaranteed procedures step by step.”

Regional councilor Maurizio Bruno is of the same opinion: “I have full confidence in the general director De Nuccio and I know that he will follow everything carefully. Among the commitments made with us and therefore with all the users of the Francavilla hospital there is also the supply of new machinery requested by the head of cardiology, to make the department increasingly cutting-edge. With Mayor Denuzzo we will continue to keep the spotlight on our hospital, so that all the staffing problems encountered in this long period can be resolved once and for all. overcome.”
