Ferrara, 24 April 2024 – Before he told her via text the intention of burning down her house and then, having arrived at the ex’s house armed with a bricklayer’s mallet and chisel, he threatened her with death. To stop him before the situation escalated, the police had to use pepper spray. It was a busy evening on Saturday in front of a house on the outskirts of the city.
Protagonists, a 56 year old man resident in the province of Rovigo and his ex-partner, a 62-year-old from Ferrara. In the end, the man from Rovigo was arrested for resisting a public official and reported for serious threats and carrying instruments capable of offending. It is, in a nutshell, the chronicle of a disturbing episode which only thanks to the intervention of the men of the Army did not degenerate further into serious consequences. To better understand the contours we need to rewind the tape of the story until 8pm on Saturday. The unfortunate woman is at home when she starts receiving messages from her ex. The tone is heavy and intimidating. In one of them, the man even promises to burn her house down. Frightened by the turn events were taking, she decided to call the police. At that moment, she still didn’t imagine that the situation would soon become even more heated.
Following of the alarm raised by the 62-year-old on 112, a military patrol from the San Martino station rushed to the scene to understand what was happening. Just a few minutes and you’re at home the 56-year-old arrives from the unfortunate woman. The man, in an evident state of intoxication, gets out of the car holding a bricklayer’s mallet and a chisel. He heads decisively towards the woman’s house. However, he is immediately intercepted by the military who ask him who he was and what he was doing there, but not before disarming him. But the newcomer doesn’t want to stop and continues with his intent. Trying to make his way through the soldiers, he begins to push them, explaining that his intention was to reach the woman and kill her.
Included that he would not give up so easily, the Army men try to block him before he reaches the door. In response, he begins to struggle forcefully, trying to hit the operators. To stop it, the latter are forced to use stinging spray. Only then do they manage to prevail and to tighten the handcuffs on the 56-year-old’s wrists. The man is then taken to the barracks and held in a security room until the validation hearing, held the day before yesterday in court.
The judge validated the arrest and ordered the arrested person to be banned from staying in Ferrara as a precautionary measure. In addition to this, his driving license was also revoked for refusing to take an alcohol test. According to what was leaked, in addition to the chisel and hammer that the 56-year-old had wielded when he arrived on site, the soldiers also found a sickle and some shears.
