It is increasingly a Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa by UAE Development: at the finish line in Castelnuovo della Daunia (arrival and departure location of the fourth stage, a 31,980 km circuit repeated three times) Federica Venturelli wins, who precedes the leader in the uphill sprint general classification and teammate Lara Gillespie and Asia Zontone (Islomant-Premac-Vittoria).
The 19 year old from Cremona is satisfied: “For me it’s the first victory of the season – she says – as I’ve had some physical problems. I have to thank the team, who gave me a hand. In the final stages, there were three of us left from Uae: with me and Gillespie, there was also Federica Piergiovanni, who wanted to make a good impression as she was from Puglia. On the final climb I gave everything and arrived with my arms raised.”
After the finish line, Venturelli also waited for her teammates who arrived further behind, to thank them for the work done. Another protagonist of the day was Fariba Hashimi, who excelled in both second category mountain grand prix, placed right at the finish line on the first and second laps at the finish line in Castelnuovo della Daunia. “My goal – declares the Afghan athlete – is to try to bring home the green jersey of gpm leader. I train with my sister in Italy and I’m happy, because in my country I wouldn’t have been able to do sports. I thank those in Italy – concludes the WCC Team cyclist – who allowed us to make our dream come true”.
Tomorrow the Giro Mediterraneo in Rosa ends: the last long-awaited stage is the Foggia-Motta Montecorvino of 92,050 km, with two mountain grand prix along the final circuit (to be repeated twice), the last first category dedicated to one of the greatest interpreters of Italian women’s cycling, Maria Canins, placed 17 km from the finish line.
The tastings of products offered, among others, by Jomi and the ancient Petrone distillery were highly appreciated by the large public who are following the event, while waiting for the arrival and departure phases.
