Croatia’s olive oil festival

The 26th edition of the international fair “Oleum Olivarum” once again focused attention on Crassiza, a picturesque village in the territory of the City of Buie.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of “Oleum Olivarum” is its ability to merge gastronomy with art and culture thanks to the international painting competition organized for two years in memory of Ronny Jušić, who gave life to this twenty years ago special event, artist, dreamer and full of energy.

Artists from different European countries participated in the Ex tempore, drawing inspiration from the beauty of the landscapes and the local cultural richness. Taking the podium with their works were Slavica Oplanić from Novigrad, Saša Dejanović from Buie and Elsa Delise from Trieste. As emerged, the works of art created during the event contributed to creating a unique link between art and olive oil, highlighting the importance of creativity and inspiration in valorising this product.

The jury, composed of Lorella Limoncin Toth, Lovorka Lukani and Nadia Pastorcich, after having examined 91 works by 65 artists, decided to reward Oplanić because, playing with figurative art and sensations, while using a of cold colours, it managed to “warm our roots, the roots of this land and its olive trees”. Dejanović, as underlined, with her brushstrokes gave intense and profound emotions, capable of making observers feel part of the painting. Third place went to the artist Delise who, according to the jury, described Crassiza with the nuances of olives, defined as “an essential sign but rich in life like the earth”.
