The signature on the paintings is: Sauro da F. Where that F probably means Falerone, so we can read Sauro da Falerone. Sauro is Cecchi, painter, restorer, screenwriter and more. True Faleronense, eclectic, with the desire to live, learn and surprise. 40 years of art. 40 years that he wanted to celebrate with an excellent exhibition in an excellent place: the former church of Sant’Agostino in upper Civitanova Marche. Last Sunday, the inauguration with an unexpected audience in terms of size. The critic Marta Lock presented it after greetings from the mayor of Civitanova Marche Fabrizio Ciarapica and the regional councilor Pierpaolo Borroni. Sandro Bartolacci, a renowned sculptor and teacher at the Fermo Art High School, opened the proceedings, also giving the floor to the Fineco manager. So far the news.

But the man, the artist? Sauro has breathed painting since he was a child. He did it thanks to local masters: Giovanni Conceptoni, Donato De Robertis, Adelio Marini, Massimo Mezzanotte, Piero Antonelli. He frequented the shops of some of them, watching the easels and paintings that gradually took shape. So the fire was lit. And Sauro began his journey. There are three moments in his pictorial investigation: landscape painting, abstract constructivism and neoplasticism. Three passions, three paths to follow. He called them 3 Gs.

In his works we don’t see any characters. Because you imagine the characters in the houses that stand out among the hills: they are sitting at the tables and perhaps discussing, they are around the fireplace and perhaps praying, they are in front of the TV and perhaps…

Then, those smoking factories, those gray buildings almost reminiscent of Marinettian futurism. Finally, his latest works where the places are full of waste: the civilization that consumes and wastes. «It is not an ecological message – he specifies – but an attitude that invites us to reflect on the use of things».

Does the artist vibrate when the creative spark strikes him? «Yes, it vibrates – he replies – as if he were prey to a superior force».

A few years ago, Cecchi issued an invitation to his fellow painters and sculptors, poets, writers, musicians, philosophers and historians. An invitation to come together, to dialogue. Throwing individualisms in the bin. Instead, seeking the comparison that leads to growth.

A wish to the painter with the words of a Polish poet Cyprian Norwid who wrote: «Beauty is to enthuse / work is to be resurrected».
