Explosion in the kitchen due to gas leak: child injured and transferred to Meyer

An explosion in the kitchen of a house resulted in the injury of a 6-year-old boy and, to a lesser extent, his parents. The incident happened on Friday evening on the first floor of a building in the countryside of the Ripabianca area (Deruta).

Injured child transferred to Meyer The child was initially taken to the emergency room in Perugia by his parents, who were also slightly injured, but then the doctors from Santa Maria della Misericordia opted for transfer to Meyer in Florence. The child suffered burns in various parts of his body but is out of danger.

Gas leak in the kitchen According to what was possible to reconstruct, the origin of the light explosion was the leak of gas from a centralized system and not powered by an LPG cylinder as initially emerged.

Light explosion The slight noise caused by the leak in those moments in progress in the kitchen, it emerges, would have been heard by the parents and the child, who then went to check, turning on the light in the room. Precisely this gesture, according to the reconstruction, would have in fact triggered the small explosion and the flashback that burned the three members of the family, all of Moroccan origin.

Rush to hospital The father then loaded his wife and son into the car and rushed to the emergency room in Perugia. From here the report was then made to the police, with the Carabinieri of Captain Giovanni De Liso carrying out all the necessary investigations in the house, assisted by the fire brigade teams of Todi and Perugia. As mentioned, the explosion was light, so much so that at the end of the firefighters’ checks the house was declared fit for use.
