one dead, traffic at a standstill

Bloody Saturday in Sicily where, a little while ago, a dramatic event occurred car accident on the A20 Messina-Palermo. A truck overturned, for reasons still under investigation, between the Sant’Agata di Militello and Rocca di Capri Leone junctions, causing the death of the driver.

Fire engines from the Sant’Agata di Militello and Patti detachments were at the scene of the accident. The Messina Fire Brigade Headquarters called in a mobile crane to assist in removing the large vehicle from the road to restore traffic. The 118 ambulance with a doctor on board and ACI vehicles also intervened on site, as well as the traffic police. We are awaiting the arrival of the medical examiner to confirm the death. The A20 motorway is currently closed to traffic causing long queues and numerous inconveniences.
