Qualifying for the 6 Hours of Imola was characterized by lots of action and some twists. In the session dedicated to the Hypercars, some errors affected the completion of the qualifying laps. Despite this, the Hyperpole session, reserved for the best 10, took place quite regularly. The temperature, which dropped between the LMGT3 and Hypercar sessions, made the management more complex Tire Warm Up. This is precisely why many pilots have paid a lot of attention to tire temperature to extract the maximum possible performance.

Antonio Fuoco spoke on this topic, author of the Hyperpolewho chose a 2-lap Warm Up strategy, unlike the others who did one.

“It was something already scheduled this morning. This is because going into qualifying with rather cold tires is quite complex. We therefore preferred it do two warm-up laps to bring the covers into the right window and not stress them”.

“I think this made the difference today compared to our opponents. I saw that the Porsche was pushing ahead of us and it probably put a little more stress on the tires. Today’s performance confirms that we understood the warm up strategy even better of the tires compared to the others”.

After this question, Antonio Fuoco spoke about the linearity of the qualifying session, which saw two yellow flags displayed for some off-track.

“But honestly not so much, obviously our plan is to keep pushing, then there was the yellow flag we decided to cool the tires for a while and then try again. In the end honestly I think not much has changed.

Shortly afterwards, Antonio Fuoco also explained the strategy of returning to the track after the red flag, despite a good time and P1.

“Yes, I wanted to have the feeling in a couple of corners that in my opinion I still wasn’t at 100% so I had time to do it and I preferred to get back on track and get some convenience for the hyperpole.”
