Gas explosion, burned child transferred to Meyer in Florence

Perugia, 20 April 2024 – In the quiet countryside of Ripabianca, the atmosphere was shaken by an unexpected event: a sudden explosion resonated in the kitchen of a modest house.

The noise, although slight, was enough to arouse the attention of a family, whose members were unaware of the imminent danger.

A six-year-old boy and his parents, of Moroccan origin, were in the residence at the time of the accident. The child, taken to the Perugia emergency room together with his parents, had burns due to the explosion, but fortunately his life was not in danger. The decision to transfer him to Meyer in Florence was made to guarantee specialized care.

The origin of the explosion was attributed to a gas leak from a centralized system in the kitchen. The slight hiss produced by the leak attracted the attention of the family, who, unaware of the risk, approached to investigate, turning on the light in the room.

Precisely this apparently harmless gesture triggered the explosion, fortunately of low intensity, causing burns to the three members of the family.

The father promptly loaded his wife and son into the car and hurried to the Perugia emergency room, where he reported it to the competent authorities.

The Carabinieri, led by Captain Giovanni De Liso, conducted the necessary investigations, assisted by the local fire brigade teams.

Fortunately, the explosion, although light, did not compromise the structure of the house, which was declared fit for use following the firefighters’ investigations.
