An iron bar killed him, who hit him in the chest while he was carrying out a repair on a trailer for agricultural machinery positioned close to an excavator. From the first reconstructions it would seem that the bar was placed between the two vehiclesbut it will be up to the investigators to establish the exact location and the reasons for the collapse.
The young man had been called by a company that makes horse boxes and works with iron, but he worked for a manufacturing company in the province of Arezzo.
He lived in Le Chianacce, a very small hamlet of Cortona, where everyone remembers him fondly. Fishing and motocross enthusiast, who had been an uncle for a few months: his sister Chiara had become the mother of a child. A role that he carried out with pride, as well as his work as a mechanic. Manuel knew what he was doing. Despite his young age, he did not lack professionalism. As well as the appreciation of those around him.
This is demonstrated by the many people who rushed to the scene of the tragedy, in disbelief at a death that still has no explanation.
The investigations
The Siena prosecutor’s office, which has opened an investigation, will be responsible determine the causes of this drama. The external area of the company has been seized. The young man’s body will be returned to his family today. An autopsy will not be performed.
There is a red and white tape to delimit a limit where access is allowed only to authorized people. Whoever goes back repeats a single phrase: “You can’t die like this”, says a family friend. And then yet another. Which is immediately followed by another: “He was a truly decent boy.”
Almost invisible to the eyes of those immersed in the tragedy, labor inspectors, firefighters and law enforcement officers move. The police collect the statements of those present. The trailer area is sealed and all the workers try to grasp any detail that can help shed light on what happened. The chief prosecutor Andrea Boni also arrived from Siena. He stays in the area for a long time to follow all the findings. Accompanying him was prosecutor Elisa Vieri.
Pain and complaint
Manuel’s mother gives in again and is made to lie down in a car in the yard. When the prosecutor concludes the inspection, the red and white tape is removed and everyone leaves the scene of the accident. Manuel’s body is also taken away.
The denunciation of politicians, trade unions and even religious institutions is inevitable.
