Success for ‘Piazza Liguria’ and for the 80 local labels, protagonists at the 56th edition of Vinitaly, which attracted a total of almost 100 thousand visitors. For the Liguria Region, there were two of the most prestigious prizes awarded to local companies and 17 thousand tastings at the stand.

“The image of a ‘heroic’ Liguria due to its agri-food history has won over Vinitaly again this year – comments the president of the Liguria Region -. There are many excellent products from the area, including Dop and Igt denominations under the spotlight, which have been able to tell the tradition of a region that is extremely varied in terms of flavors and colours, but still united. This synergy was demonstrated by the institutional stand, which brought together all these experiences in an international food and wine and wine tourism journey”.

“Positive outcome – adds the vice president and councilor for Agriculture of the Liguria Region at the end of the event – with our institutional stand even more attractive than the previous year due to the network activated with the representative companies of the territory in a ‘Liguria Square’ reunited for the first time, making it easier for visitors to enjoy. The storytelling was also highly appreciated, both with Cristiano Palozzi’s videos and with the masterclasses.”

A record closing for Vinitaly, which recorded 97 thousand attendances and an increase in foreign operators, of which 1,200 top buyers (+20% compared to 2023).
“The data and the positive feedback from our companies, from the regional wine shop of Liguria and from the consortia – continues the councilor for agriculture – demonstrate how fundamental the international promotion of Ligurian wine is”.

“All the denominations and in particular the most renowned vines were appreciated – says Marco Rezzano, president of Enoteca Regionale – with the greatest influx of enthusiasts on Sunday 14th April, while the operators and importers reached important numbers starting from Monday 15th with great satisfaction of the producers. One fact above all: it is estimated that in the ‘Piazza Liguria’ in recent days there have been 17 thousand tastings”.

“It was a Vinitaly with comforting numbers in a particularly delicate moment for the export sector. The Ligurian wine sector is growing, thanks to a production that is finally seeing the prestige it deserves recognized, thanks to heroic agriculture and moderate production in quantity and very high quality,” comment Gianluca Boeri and Bruno Rivarossa, president of Coldiretti Liguria and confederal delegate. “It is important now to underline the emergence of our small region at an international level: Liguria is in fact recording a production increase of 16%, with quantities of wine produced increasing compared to the approximately 46,000 hl of previous years.”

The credit goes to an increase in exports which is reflected in the entire wine sector, today the leading voice of Made in Italy agri-food abroad. Added to this is an exponentially growing wine tourism, which has contributed in many cases to the discovery of the entire region, especially under its more agricultural aspects and linked to the tradition of the territory. In fact, it is no coincidence that in 2023 Liguria reached 16 million tourists, an absolute record.

“Wine tourism confirms itself as the new frontier for those looking for a holiday among the vineyards,” add Boeri and Rivarossa. “The economic value of wine is increasing by 7% compared to the previous year, with over 5.6 million bottles produced. The numbers speak clearly: the direction of the wine sector in Liguria is the confirmation of a very successful Vinitaly 2024, and we couldn’t be more proud.”
