With over 80 labels, Liguria will also be told from 14 to 17 April in Verona, for Vinitaly, the reference event for the international wine world. Today, April 15, also coincides with the first National Day of Made in Italy, for which Coldiretti places itself at the forefront with a morning event in the “All roads lead to wine” space. At the end of the event, the top ten of the native wines that recorded the greatest increase in sales in 2023 were also displayed, a sign of the fact that the future of Vigneto Italia depends on the ability to promote and protect territorial distinctiveness, a strong point of the tricolor at the table, complete with tasting of the local excellences in the early afternoon. Among the workhorses in the diffusion of local wines, also Liguria and its heroic viticulture, this year in pavilion 10.

The numbers confirm it: the production of around 46 thousand hectoliters per year is increasing compared to 2023. It includes 8 DOC and 4 IGP. The Ligurian vineyards extend over an area of just 1,500 hectares, often on steep and terraced terrain: for this reason, Ligurian agriculture largely falls within that ancestral concept of heroic viticulture which has made the region unique in its kind.

“The quality of Ligurian wine production is a flagship of the agricultural production of the area,” comment Gianluca Boeri and Bruno Rivarossa, President of Coldiretti Liguria and Confederal Delegate. “As well as an example of the interconnection between culture, geography and history. Native varieties, small cellars, Mediterranean climate and traditional techniques: from the hinterland to the coasts, our small region proves to be increasingly competitive on a market – that of Italian wine – which aims for the quality of its products and confirms itself as one of the main players of the global wine sector. But it is not just a question of mere production leadership: the world of wine brings with it the possibility of constantly growing food and wine and tourism development, especially for those regions, such as Liguria, which in recent years are also being rediscovered at an international level .”
