Ravenna, 13 April 2024 – Joseph Pigeon he never resigned himself to the possibility of a banal accident. AND five years after the umpteenth archiving of the case, is preparing to ask again to reopen the investigation into the death of his son Vadim, the 22 year old from Ravenna than the same parent found dead on the muddy banks of the Marano canal in Riccioneepilogue of the tragedy Pink night of July 2012. The friends who were with him had returned home, without anyone being particularly concerned about his fate.
Now, through a new lawyer, the lawyer Elena Fabbri of the Rimini Bar, expert in crimes against the person, is preparing to request new investigations from the Rimini prosecutor’s office in light of what will be the results of an aspect never investigated until now: the analysis of the young man’s cell phone. An exam that was impossible until a few years ago, on an old generation device – prior to smartphones -, compromised because it was found in water, but which today new technologies make practicable.
The objective is one: understand who Vadim was with that evening of July 7th twelve years ago now, it was felt and had spent the last few hours. “This is an important innovation – explains the lawyer Fabbri – and the device is already available to one of our consultants, an expert in this type of analysis. The data, therefore the telephone traffic and the contacts that Vadim had had that evening, could be decisive for the purposes of reopening the investigation”.
Same previous investigations they had not clarified a detail: on the one hand the cell phone found turned off near the boy, on the other the fact, testified by the mother, that shortly before it had rang empty. That night the boy, of Belarusian origins, had reached the Riviera by train with some friends. They had fun, they drank, then they lost sight of each other. The investigations of the Rimini prosecutor’s office had always focused on the failure to provide assistance, but the Piccione family hypothesized other leads, such as death as a result of another crime. The autopsy, carried out after the body had been left warm in the cemetery in a bag since there was no room in the morgue, returned only a deductive conclusion of drowning, contrasted by the fact that there was no water in the young man’s lungs.
“We are not ruling out any leads – the lawyer Elena Fabbri now specifies –, it is no longer a question of evaluating just a failure to assist, even if the Prosecutor’s Office will make its own assessments in this regard. Much will depend on the outcome of the investigations on the cell phone , following which we hope to understand with whom Vadim had had his last contacts that evening”.
