Diabetes situation in Friuli Venezia Giulia: in our area, over 90,000 people suffer from diabetes, approximately 6 out of every 100 inhabitants, but a third of those diagnosed are unaware of their condition.
A ride for awareness
Registrations are now open to join “Freewheeling Diabetes 2024”, an event that will extend from 10 to 12 May across the provinces of Udine, Pordenone, Gorizia and Trieste. This event is not only an opportunity to have fun and do physical activity, but it is also an educational platform to raise awareness among participants and the community on the importance of diabetes prevention and a healthy lifestyle.
All-round health promotion
The Friuli Venezia Giulia recently highlighted the importance of collaborating with local actors to promote healthy behaviors through initiatives such as the Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) program, recommended by WHO. These efforts are key to preventing chronic diseases and promoting active and healthy aging among the population.
Diabetes and lifestyles: an inseparable link
The growing prevalence of diabetes calls into question the sustainability of our healthcare system. Promoting active and safe mobility through urban planning policies can be a step forward in the fight against this disease, as demonstrated by the “Freewheeling Diabetes” initiative.
Invitation to participate
Anyone wishing to participate can do so, regardless of their level of fitness, thanks to the possibility of using traditional bicycles or e-bikes. This event aims to make Friuli Venezia Giulia an example of how sport and health can go hand in hand in the prevention of diabetes.
