The bridge collapses, children stuck in the Meduna riverbed

A school group remained stuck in the bed of the Meduna river.

A few minutes later 2pm today, 12 April 2024, the operations room of the Pordenone fire brigade command received one request for help for a school group stuck in the riverbed of the Meduna river in the municipality of Meduna.

Immediately the operator in charge of the operations room of the right Tagliamento command sent the team from the Maniago detachment and the SFA team (Alluvial River Rescuers) of the Headquarters. Once on site the firefighters reached the small group, made up of 15 children (between 6 and 7 years old) and 4 educators.

One of the teachers explained that while they were preparing to engage a concrete bridge which has given way and the group was stuck on a spit of land in the middle of the river with no other ways to return safely. The firefighters, using the rafting dinghy appropriately tied, they moved children and educators from the strip of land to the river bank. Fortunately, also thanks to the attention and timeliness of the teacher, none of the participants in the educational excursion were injured and no one fell into the water. For the kids it was a fun adventure.
