Mourning for the death of the Viareggio cardiologist Ezio Soldati

A serious and brief illness took a great doctor, Dr. Ezio Soldati, who passed away yesterday at the Santa Chiara hospital at the age of 67.

In his case one might say nomen omen because, despite being a free spirit and an idealist, he was a soldier in carrying out his mission as a doctor. From Viareggio, coming from the Cnr, was a pioneer in arrhythmology together with Maria Grazia Bongiorni, with whom he was hired in Aoup in 1997 and from then on, together, they undertook a long journey always in tandem and forming a strong team, which brought the Pisan arrhythmological cardiology on the roof of the world. In fact, the so-called was invented in Aoup Pisa approachesa method later copied around the world, for the extraction of infected or malfunctioning cardiac leads via multiple venous approaches.

But Soldati was also shy, he didn’t like fame and wasn’t interested in his career. He was just scrubs, the operating room and the ward. His dedication to patients in recent years has been total and absolute, carried out beyond all working hours, forgetting holidays, leaves and holidays.

He loved everything about cardiology, from the treatment of heart failure to all the electrical defects of the heart and he always pursued the patient’s recovery, which is why he always aimed, where possible, at ablation of arrhythmias to eliminate the problem at the source and not stop it with pharmacological therapies.

His greatest joy was when patients, grateful for his extraordinary competence in treatment, also recognized this great human depth in him. It was the satisfaction that moved him the most because his eyes shone.

Over the years he has participated in numerous international conferences and has also held positions in scientific societies (he was regional president ofItalian Association of Arrhythmology and Cardiac Stimulation and then councilor in the national board).

He leaves behind his wife and two daughters, one of whom is an anesthesiologist in Aoup, and a team of colleagues who have lost a cornerstone of the department, a beacon and a close friend.

The body will be transferred from the morgue to the Green Cross in Viareggio in the morning; the funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon (11 April) at 4pm, again in Viareggio, in Don Bosco church. They reach the family the feelings of deepest condolences on the part of the entire Aoup.
