A man from the American state of Kentucky admits to having faked his own death to avoid paying child support toex wife. Jesse E. Kipf was charged with identity theft aggravated and computer fraud for entering Hawaii’s death registry in January 2023 by using the credentials of a doctor living in another state to sign his death certificate. As a result, the man was listed as deceased in several government databases.

Kipf wanted to escape paying more than $116,000 in child support to his ex-wife. Opportunity made the man a thief because he also allegedly stole other identities in other states’ death registration systems and tried to sell access to government and corporate networks online to potential buyers. The man caused almost $80,000 in damage to these networks but agreed to compensate all parties.
