Spurs ahead but caught by the Hammers: no connection to Aston Villa, expected by City. Everton took a point away from the Magpies with a late penalty. Precious victory for Forest over Fulham

April 2 – 11.20pm – LONDON

Tottenham’s Champions League race is lost in the bubbles of the London Stadium. In one of the 5 matches that opened the midweek round of the Premier League, Vicario and Udogie’s team were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham, despite having taken the lead after 5 minutes, and remained in fifth place in the table , now at 57 points, failing to overtake Aston Villa, two points ahead and awaited by Manchester City. With Vicario protagonist of a couple of important saves, especially at the start of the second half, and Udogie always a threat on the left, Tottenham controlled the game in a sterile way, without however producing the opportunities needed to eliminate West Ham in the second half. Moyes’ team, who have not won in 4 games (3 draws), reacted well to the initial goal, trying to attack on the counterattack with Antonio following the direction of Paquetá and letting Tottenham unleash intense ball possession without running any substantial dangers. The Hammers, with Emerson starting on the left and author of a game without lights or shadows, remain seventh with 45 points, with Europe still in mind and the need to recover quickly from this slowdown: Moyes fielded the best team against Tottenham possible, except for the absence due to suspension of the Mexican Alvarez, but West Ham lacked a bit of creativity in front of goal. If the objective was not to sink, however, the mission was achieved.

the match

Under the downpour, Tottenham broke the deadlock after just 5′ with Johnson, who collected a nice cross from the left from Werner in the small area. However, West Ham equalized in the 19th minute with Zouma, who jumped higher than anyone from Bowen’s corner. The match falls asleep, despite the guests trying to control it again, and the second half starts again at 1-1 and without substitutions. A flare-up from the hosts at the start forces Vicario into overtime, but Tottenham slowly regains control of the game and seems to grow when Postecoglou replaces the spent Maddison with Kulusevski. The goal, however, does not arrive and the final equalizer is the fairest result: the Champions League fight for Spurs remains open despite the half-brake at the London Stadium, like that for West Ham in Europe, who will be in the Europa League quarter-finals next week a double match against Leverkusen will begin.

the others

At the end are precious three points of salvation for Nottingham Forest, who beat Fulham 3-1 and regained success after 5 games of abstinence and rose to 25 points, a three-point margin over third-last Luton Town and expected tomorrow (Wednesday) by Arsenal. The team with the Garibaldi red shirts remains 17th, one point behind Everton, who snatched a precious 1-1 draw in Newcastle with a penalty in the 88th minute: the Toffees remain winless in the Premier League in 2024 (last known success on 16 December) but at least they ended their three-game losing streak. At the back, Burnley’s situation remains difficult: the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton is the fourth consecutive useful result for Kompany’s team, who however remain second to last with 19 points and safety now 6 points away. Further up, fourth victory in 5 games for Bournemouth, who thanks to Kluivert beat Palace 1-0 and momentarily overtake Chelsea on 41 points. The Eagles, stuck at 30, are in their fourth match without success and with the fight for survival still dangerously close.
