The origins
On the Easter Monday motif, its other name enlightens us, that is Easter Monday. The anniversary remembered would be that of the angel who, according to the Christian religion, goes to the tomb to cheer up the three women who were the first to find it empty. An attentive observer could say that this event, following the chronology, would have occurred on Sunday morning and not Monday. Everything would derive from an interpretation of the sacred texts which would say “the Monday after Easter” but referring to Jewish Easterwhich falls on a Saturday.
Another explanation, which would also justify the tradition of going out of town, would be the one that instead links Easter Monday to the appearance of Jesus to two disciples who were going outside Jerusalem, towards Emmaus.
