Among the new features of macOS 15 is a completely new Calculator

Apple is working on a release of the Calculator app for macOS, a version that we will see with macOS 15, operating system that Apple will preview in June, at the WWDC24 (developers conference) together with the other operating systems for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.

According to what the Appleinsider website reports, the Cupertino company is internally testing a renewed version of the Calculator, whose code name is GreyParrotreference to the gray parrot, native to central Africa, considered among the most intelligent bird species.

Apple intends to integrate a series of improvements into the Calculator: in addition to taking into account app-specific clipboards Note, the utility should boast a new ribbon that can be called up from the other left (rather than from the Window as now menu), useful for checking what has been entered and with a sidebar that would allow improved access to previous calculations. Other buttons should allow you to change the type of calculator on the fly by choosing between Basic, Scientific and Programmer.

Another new feature is the possibility of resize the application window, changing the appearance based on the scaling chosen by the user but the real novelty would be the already mentioned integration with the Notes app; the latter should allow you to record voice memos and integrate support for displaying mathematical notation (you can add more types of mathematical equations to the notes) and integration with the Calculator, allowing you to take advantage of calculation and conversion features.

Speaking of conversions, even for the latter (e.g. functions to convert temperatures or currencies) there are improvements and features that will allow you to exploit them in an even simpler way (e.g. automatically converting currencies as you type the values).

The macOS Calculator has not been updated for some time; it offers everything you need and for the most demanding there are numerous third-party solutions, including stainless Pcalca utility that has existed for more than 30 years.
