How to defend your WhatsApp account from constant attacks by bad actors: just activate these functions.
In recent months, WhatsApp continues to be at the center of the debate on digital security, an issue that affects millions of users daily.
With the increasingly intensive use of the app for personal and professional communications and exchanges of sensitive documents, privacy protection and profile protection have become essential priorities. In response to the increase in scam attempts and account takeovers, WhatsApp has implemented a new advanced security mode, designed to offer more effective and immediate protection.
WhatsApp’s new advanced mode for account security
WhatsApp developers have introduced a feature that aggregates several existing security settings, making it easier for users to activate comprehensive protection. This advanced mode aims to significantly reduce the risks deriving from unknown contacts and potentially harmful content, without complicating the user experience.
Once activated, the mode automatically blocks the download of multimedia content from numbers not present in the address book, thus limiting the possibility of malware infections or phishing attempts. Link previews are also disabled, often used to attract users to fraudulent or dangerous sites. Another element of defense concerns calls: WhatsApp automatically silences incoming calls from unsaved contacts, thus avoiding unwanted disturbances and possible voice scams.
Managing group invitations is another area the new security feature focuses on. To prevent automatic insertion into spam chats or suspicious groups, advanced mode limits unwanted invitations, granting greater control over who can add the user to a collective conversation. This measure represents an important step to combat spam campaigns and scam attempts spread via WhatsApp groups.
Furthermore, two-step verification, which can already be activated by the user, is strongly encouraged within this mode, offering an additional level of protection when accessing the account. Profile visibility is also reduced, limiting the information accessible to those who are not present in the personal contact list, a key element for preserving privacy.
At the moment, this new security mode is available in the beta versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS, and will be distributed to all users in the next official updates. Activation is simple and immediate: just access the app settings, select the privacy section and enable advanced account protection options. Users can deactivate it at any time by following the same path.
This innovation represents a significant step forward in the fight against scams and identity theft on WhatsApp, while maintaining a balance of safety and ease of use, fundamental aspects for an app used by over two billion people around the world.
