The professional adventure of the (road) cyclist Vincenzo Nibali ended on Saturday 8 October 2022 with the Giro di Lombardia, but the relationship that binds the Messina champion to the world of two wheels is not yet closed. In fact, Vincenzo Nibali will continue to follow road cycling closely as a consultant to a professional team, but at the same time he has recently revealed that he intends to race on a mountain bike.

After two Tours of Italy (2013 and 2016), one Vuelta of Spain (2010) and one Tour of France (2014), completing the triple crown, and the victory of three classic Monumento: Milano-Sanremo (2018) and Giro di Lombardia (2015 and 2017), these are his most prestigious successes on the road, the story between Nibali and the two wheels powered by the pedals has not yet ended.

There Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team is a Swiss team with a Professional license born in 2023. It will therefore not take part in all the most important competitions on the international cycling scene, as teams with a World Tour license can do. But it will be able to take advantage of invitations to participate in some races such as for example Giro d’Italia and Tirreno-Adriatico or classics on Italian soil Strade Bianche, Milan-Sanremo. Vincenzo Nibali has linked his name to the newborn team as technical consultant, in the featured image Nibali was present at the presentation in Zurich a few weeks ago.

Back to racing in Mtb

More recent however the news that Vincenzo Nibali will return to compete on two wheels but not on the road, but on the dirt road in Mountain Bike. Revealing his schedule, Nibali let it be known that he will race at theAndalusia Bike Race (February 27-March 4) and to follow in South Africa in the Cape Epic (March 19-26). The second is the most important appointment, the Spanish one seems to serve as preparation.

Mountain biking is a discipline that has always fascinated Nibali since he was a child, almost certainly practicing it on the Peloritan hills in Sarrizzo, but it didn’t go well with road commitments and above all it wasn’t recommended given the high risk of injury. Now Vincenzo Nibali lets it be known that he has more time to devote to this discipline and we wish him the best of luck.
