The Olympic Flame of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games will arrive in Pescara on the afternoon of Friday 2 January.
The Flame will stop in the Adriatic capital and all citizens will be able to witness this moment, along the city route and in Piazza della Rinascita (Piazza Salotto, ndr).

This was remembered by the municipal councilor for Sport, Patrizia Martelli, who illustrated the entire programme.

The arrival in the Adriatic capital is expected at 5pm but from 3.30pm the spotlight will be on this event, because the 44 torchbearers will meet at the Giovanni Paolo II building. At 5.20pm the Caravan of the Flame will take the torchbearers to Via Tiburtina and from there the journey of the Flame will begin up to Piazza della Rinascita, where the Olympic Village will be set up. On the stage, in the square, there will be institutional greetings and speeches by athletes from Pescara who have distinguished themselves in their respective sports disciplines, with stories dedicated to their experiences and the value of sport in their personal and professional journeys. The city route of the Olympic Flame will wind for 9.2 kilometers through the main streets of the city, culminating in the arrival in Piazza della Rinascita where the brazier will be lit.

The names of the torchbearers

Martelli has already announced the names of the torchbearers in recent days, each of whom will walk approximately 200 metres. Among the sports personalities who will carry the torch, there are Giovanni De Benedictis, former Olympic walking champion, Paola Patricelli and Roberta Pagliuca, who ran the New York marathon and who bring the value of inclusion to the world. The last torchbearer who will light the brazier will be Luca Bronzi, Italian under 17 and under 19 kitesurfing champion and fourth place in the under 17 junior world championship. There will also be space for various athletes from Pescara and personalities who have distinguished themselves in the field of sport: on the Eni Coca-Cola stage in Piazza della Rinascita, Matteo Dagasso, midfielder of Pescara and the National Under21 team will speak; Jasmine De Felice, European boxing champion; Maria Camilla Niola, para field hockey champion; Nando D’Agostino, gold medal at the Fisdir world athletics championship; Carlo Maria D’Amico, silver medal in the Under 19 category of the European parasailing championship; Stefano Giuliani, former cycling champion. Federica Cappelletti, president of Serie A Woman, will also be on stage and will present the Pescara final of the super cup.

«A great day for the Pescarese community», says Martelli, who invites everyone to be there «to experience this special event together, bearer of the values ​​of sport and inclusion». As regards traffic, these are the bans envisaged by the Municipality. Closures to transit scheduled for 2 January 2026, from 4.00 pm to 8.00 pm in: viale Regina Margherita, stretch between Via G. Mazzini and Piazza della Rinascita; via Nicola Fabrizi, stretch between Piazza della Rinascita and via G. Parini. Prohibition of parking and stopping from 08:00 to 18:00 on 2 January 2026, with forced removal, with the exception of vehicles supporting the event, in the two car parks near the entrances to the Palazzetto Papa Giovanni Paolo II: Via Tirino side, Via Aldo Moro side. Prohibition of parking and stopping with forced removal, with the exception of vehicles supporting the event, in the paid car parks of Piazza I Maggio (south side lane), from 08:00 to 23:59 on 2 January 2026. Furthermore, on 2 January 2026 from 13:00 until the needs cease, the ban on parking and stopping with forced removal will come into effect in: – via Virgilio Marone Publio, south side lane towards mountains-sea; – via Tibullo, south side lane towards mountains-sea. From 11.59pm on 1 January 2026 to 8.00pm on 2 January 2026, ban on parking and stops with forced removal, with the exception of vehicles supporting the event, on via Elettra, in the stretch between the anti-stadium and the Maiella grandstand.
