The Tour of first times… is not over yet. And it proposes for today, even in the fourth stage, one of its historical monuments, namely the Galibier. But let’s go in order and start from the beginning, that is with the start that will be given from Pinerolo for a short fraction – 139.6 km – but decidedly promising.

Just leaving Pinerolo the riders – led by the new yellow jersey Richard Carapaz (by the way, history teaches us that it is always better not to trust the Ecuadorian rider…) – will find the only flat kilometres because soon the climb towards the Sestrière: a very long climb of 39.7 km at an average gradient of 3.7% which will however put a strain on the legs. Following this, the steep descent towards Cesana Torinese where the climb begins again towards the Col de Montenevre: It is by tackling this 8.3km long climb at 5.9% that the Tour will officially make its entry into France.

All well-known roads, those of the Hautes-Alpes region, roads that will lead to Briançon and from there to the attack of the Galibier, the first Hors Categorie climb of this edition of the race: pedaling upwards for 23 kilometres, with an average of 5.1%, you will reach an altitude of 2,642 metres. From the pass begins the long descent, 19 km the first part of which is very technical, which leads to the finish line in Valloire and could offer someone the opportunity to invent something.
