“I’m waiting to get back on track after the European Championships”

Filippo Tortu has decided not to participate in the Italian Championships of athletics, which will be staged in La Spezia on the weekend of 29-30 June. The Olympic Champion of the 4x100m, fresh from the relay success at the European Championships in Rome and the continental silver in the 200 metres, will therefore not be in the Ligurian town to defend the title won last year on the half lap of the track (with an adjoining 20.14 of minimum for the Games).

The sprinter from Brianza will continue his training in view of the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he will be a fundamental piece of the relay and where he will also try to obtain satisfaction on an individual level. Filippo Tortu communicated his choice on his Instagram profile: “The Italian championships will be held next weekend in La Spezia. Unfortunately I will not be present to defend the title I won last year in the 200 metres, achieving the minimum for the Olympic Games“.

The blue then continued:My coach and I, together with the Federation and Fiamme Gialle, have decided to wait a few more days before competing again after the European Championships. Obviously I’m sorry to miss an important event, which I care a lot about, but the choice has the objective of arriving at the Olympics in the best possible shape“.
