The splendid run of Lorenzo Musetti at the ATP 500 at Queen’s. After last week’s semi-final in Stuttgart, Musetti was the protagonist of another great week on grass, surrendering in the final only to the world no. 13, the American Tommy Paul. A match moreover where Musetti leaves with some regrets. Paul in fact imposed himself for 6-1 7-6, but Musetti can somehow complain about a first set that was let slip away rather easily; and for a final match that the Italian had won, canceling a match point and then failing to exploit a chance to bring everything to a tie-break.

However, the player who was overall more solid and more continuous in this match won. In fact, Paul, after playing the first set impeccably – serving very well and conceding very few unforced shots – was also up by a break in the second set. In fact, his only mistake came right at the best moment, when ahead 6-1, 5-4 and serve, he stumbled into the only tricky game of his match – also thanks to a couple of excellent solutions from Musetti. Having reached the tie-break, however, the American in turn was able to react to the difficulties, recovering from an initial mini-break disadvantage and then closing the match 10 points to 8 and without trembling after seeing two match points slip away and being forced to save a set point in Musetti. In short, Paul had a really good matchwhose only flaw in fact it arrived in tenth game of the second set. Thanks to this success the American thus wins the most important title of his career – but he had won an ATP 500 tournament – but above all from tomorrow he will climb to the n°12 in the worldsimultaneously finding best ranking and becoming the first American tennis player in the ATP rankings (overtaken by one place Taylor Fritz).

For Musetti, however, the sensations remain largely positive already mentioned at the beginning of the article, as well as a climb of 5 other positions which brings Carrarino back to No. 25 in the world – only 10 places below his best ranking of n°15. All good feelings therefore in view of Wimbledon starting next Monday 1st July.
