Jannik Sinner continues on its journeyATP500 from Halle. On German grass the world no.1 had to struggle a lot to overcome the resistance of the talented Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (n.45 in the ranking). The Pusterese player prevailed with a score of 6-4 6-7 (4) 6-3 in a match in which there was no shortage of moments of tension, as well as spectacular ones, such as at the beginning of the third set when Jannik was the protagonist of another diving recovery, which was then concluded with a crazy cross-passer with his backhand. The 2001 class of the Bel Paese, therefore, reaches the quarter-finals where they will face the winner of the match between Stefanos Tsitsipas (n.6 of the seeding) and the German Jan-Lennard Struff. This was Sinner’s 35th win in 38 matches played in 2024.

In the first set the blue starts like a rocket, breaking his rival’s serve with some of his shots. Marozsan, however, has an unexpected reaction, showing off flat shots that are very difficult to manage. There is the counter-break. He is not a super brilliant Sinner and the errors on the forehand side are a bit too many, however in the ninth game our standard bearer brings out the best of his repertoire to get a new break. With great authority, the first serve gives him “free” points and the curtain falls on the partial (6-4).

In the second set the level rises and both show excellent shots. Marozsan holds Sinner’s backhand diagonal great and puts the Italian in difficulty, who however proves to be superior on the forehand side. In the eleventh game Jannik has two chances to go ahead by a break and on a ball from the Hungarian deflected from the tape a passer is missed which is not impossible with the forehand. A wasted chance that will cost dearly because the tie-break is not played well by the Italian. After a splendid forehand cross return, a series of errors arrive and a bad smash into the net gives the fraction to the Hungarian at 7-4.

In the third set there is Jannik’s reaction like a champion. In the second game once again we witness his acrobatic defense: diving recovery on a ball played near Marozsan’s net, somersault and miraculous recovery with the backhand that goes to kiss the line.

Sinner takes off, showing the best of his technical baggage. There is a double break (5-1) and Jannik goes to serve for the match. However, the Hungarian is still not very ready and by playing with a loose arm he snatches the serve from the blue. Sinner tries to react immediately, building two chances to close the game, but he doesn’t take advantage of them. However, he was very concrete in the ninth game, holding the service turn at zero and closing at 6-3. Reading the statisticsagain double figures for the South Tyrolean in the ace category (12), with 75% of the points won, while with the second 52%.
