Jasmine Paolini is the fifth Italian to play the final of a Slam after Francesca Schiavone (Roland Garros 2010 and 2011), Sara Errani (Roland Garros 2012), Flavia Pennetta (Us Open 2015) and Roberta Vinci (Us Open 2015). Two Slams won, by Schiavone in 2010 (6-4 7-6 to the Australian Stosur) and Flavia Pennetta in 2015 (7-6 6-2 to Roberta Vinci).

The final reached in Paris guarantees a Jasmine Paolini its best ranking. From Monday, the 28-year-old from Lucca will be number 7 in the world, the fifth Italian in history to enter the top 10. Should she manage to lift the cup, the Italian would even rise to number 5.

Jasmine Paolini needs a real feat against Iga Swiatek. The 23-year-old Pole, chasing her 4th title at Roland Garros (third in a row) is in amazing form: 18 consecutive victories with triumphs in Madrid and Rome before arriving in Paris where she suffered only in the second round, risking elimination with former number 1 Naomi Osaka defeated 7-6(1) 1-6, 7-5. For the rest she left only crumbs to her opponents (17 games overall in 10 sets, or less than 2 games per set…). The previous two do not promise much, even if they are dated. In 2018, in the round of 16 in Prague, the Tuscan lost 6-2 6-1 while in 2022, in the first round of the US Open, she lost 6-3 6-0.
