Tennis, Trevisan: “The best is yet to come”

It is fresh from the success in the round of 32 in Rabat against the Japanese Hibino, then stopped in the round of 16 in the derby against Lucia Bronzetti. First the participation in the WTA 125 tournament organized by MEF Tennis Events and the Tennis Club Parma. After the opportunity to tread the courts of Roland Garros where, just two years ago, she had reached a historic semi-final. Martina Trevisan, born in Tuscany in 1993, does not like to fly with her imagination, mindful of the teachings of her mother Monica and father Claudio, both former athletes: “From them I learned that what satisfies is not the result. True joy doesn’t come from there. the path necessary to reach the goal, what really counts: we must never forget the path we are taking. If what was important was only the conclusion, the joy would last a few moments.”

What feelings do you have when thinking back to Roland Garros 2022?

“Without a doubt a great joy. I experienced unique emotions during that Grand Slam tournament. Chatrier is a truly special court. I hope to be able to play a match on that ground again soon.”

Was it the best sporting moment of your life?

“It was certainly a tournament that gave me a lot of awareness of my abilities. The highest point of my career? I hope not. I want to think that that is yet to come.”

How is your relationship with red clay?

“This surface allows me to better organize the game, although I must admit that in recent years I have also improved my approach on fast pitches, removing the label of “court specialist” that had been given to me.”

I’m working with great intensity, but I don’t know when I’ll see the results. life is complicated…

On training

What is this period of your career teaching you?

“That life is complicated. I am working hard, always with greater intensity, attention to detail and professionalism. However, it is difficult to know when I will start to reap the results of this process.”

Luckily she has something with her to help her grit her teeth.

“I have the words “Still I rise” tattooed on my left forearm: it means “I still get up”. It serves as a reminder, in every moment of my life, that I will not be discouraged by any difficulty I encounter.”

2024 is important for her: she has been back playing tennis for ten years. How was this journey?

“I am absolutely happy with the choice I made in 2014 when I started challenging myself again with racket in hand. Despite all the difficulties, tennis has given me so much and continues to give me great emotions and opportunities.”

His best ranking is the 18th position achieved in May 2023. Is that number what brings happiness or are there other aspects that matter more?

“The high ranking is an illusion. Just like all the prizes you receive. What remains is the work done, the emotions shared with the team, the loved ones who are close at all times and the images that remain in the heart for everything else comes and goes.”

I don’t set myself ranking goals, I never have. I just have to make the most of the opportunities

On the ranking

And in the meantime we are now on the eve of Roland Garros 2024: what are the prospects?

“In Rabat I finally had some good feelings. I hope to continue on this path. If a great result doesn’t come in the French Slam, I’m sure we’ll just have to wait a few months.”

What goal have you set for this 2024?

“I’m not used to setting myself ranking goals: I’ve never done it in my career. I’m committed to becoming even more solid and resilient, to improve in attack and to be ready for the opportunities that come.”

We close by talking about the Billie Jean King Cup 2023: what is the secret of second place during that expedition?

“The answer lies in just one name: Tathiana Garbin. She has always been close to us for many years now. She has created a team spirit and solidarity among us athletes. This makes us all stronger.”

What does wearing the Italy shirt mean for a tennis player like you?

“When I wear blue, I feel like a superhero.”
