Vito Di Prima and his mountain bike passion

Territory

It all started by chance and then became a good “vice” that he can no longer do without. Vito Di Prima, 29 years old, from Santa Ninfa is one of the mountain bike enthusiasts who on Sunday will be the protagonist of the Granfondo MTB which takes place on the Monte Finestrelle circuit. At the start there will be 300 people from all over Sicily but the guest of honor will be Kurt Astner, patron of the Granfondo in the Dolomites, a race which in the last edition registered 3000 participants. In Santa Ninfa on Sunday Vito Di Prima will be one of the 22 members of the “Finestrelle bikers” association competing. «I’m in great shape – says Di Prima – and on Sunday I hope to get an excellent result». Vito Di Prima’s passion was born a few years ago: «It was my friend Gabriele Di Carlo who lent me a bike to try it in 2019 – he says – and that ride was a prison sentence. I remember that I didn’t even have sneakers but from that test by chance, shortly after a few weeks, I took part in the Granfondo here in Santa Ninfa.” Before mountain biking, Vito Di Prima cultivated a passion for motorbikes: «At 16 I had my first two-wheeled cross bike – he says – and already on those outings with friends I began to discover extraordinary routes in the Belìce Valley ». But mountain biking was something else: «With the bike everything is different – says Vito Di Prima – because you walk in silence having the possibility of listening to the sounds of nature».

Mountain biking is a sport that combines physical preparation and risk: «If you push yourself on some extreme routes the risk of hurting yourself is always around the corner, so you always have to balance adrenaline and clarity». Since 2019 and a chance ride on a mountain bike, Vito Di Prima has achieved several successes in recent years: first in the standings for the Sicilian XCP championship and second for the XCO championship and next June 2nd he will participate in the Italian championship stage in Letojanni . Meanwhile on Sunday he will be at the start of the Granfondo Mtb in Santa Ninfa. on this occasion he plays at home, on the paths where he trains every day on his bike.
