Matteo Berrettini will not play at Roland Garros

No Roland Garros for Matteo Berrettini: for the third time in a row, the Roman will not participate in the second Slam tournament of the season. After also missing the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (“I’m not ready to play”, he said before his debut against Stefano Napolitano), Berrettini he chose not to go to Paris (today the main draw draw, with Sinner) giving the same reason.

«Although I am training intensely, I still don’t feel ready to play more best-of-5 sets matches – explained Berrettini -. This is why I decided, with my team, to return for the grass season. Thank you, as always, for your continued support, we just need to have a little more patience.” Berrettini’s last participation at Roland Garros dates back to 2021, when he was eliminated in the quarter-finals by Novak Djokovic.

Grass is Berrettini’s favorite surface, who on lawns won two consecutive titles at Queen’s (2021 and 2022) and two in Stuttgart, in 2019 and again in 2022, the latter after returning from hand surgery. The year before, however, the final had also arrived Wimbledon. The hope, in the meantime, is to see him again continuously: the victory at the ATP 250 in Marrakech at the beginning of April was followed, unfortunately, by another period of stoppage, yet another.
