Tour of Hungary 2024, Peter Sagan sees his Olympic dream fade away: “He could go to Paris even just as a guest”

Peter Sagan is running the Tour of Hungary 2024, but his Olympic dream may not come true. The Slovakian retired from WorldTour professionalism at the end of last season but, as he has often reiterated, he was aiming to participate in the mountain bike race Paris 2024 Games. However, his recent heart problems caused him to miss the first two MTB World Cup races which offered precious points for the national ranking. Points that would have served the 34-year-old from Žilina like bread to be selected in the Slovakian Olympic team.

Gabriele Uboldi, one of the most trusted men on Sagan’s staff, has in fact reported to Het Nieuwsblad That “Mathematically it is no longer possible to get enough points“. The Slovakian’s dream thus becomes further and further away, and according to Uboldi, even a possible wildcard from the Olympic Committee is “Very difficult. But Peter will be at the Games anyway, if not as an athlete, maybe even just as a guest.”

Sagan’s participation in the Tour of Hungary these days, among the ranks of the Continental team Pierre Baguette, is to be seen, again according to Uboldi’s words, more like a training session. “He’s not in shape. We won’t see him in the sprints or going for a stage win. The feeling is more that of a training camp. Peter thinks this. Then it’s nice to see riders like Cavendish and Viviani in the race.”
