Massimo Brunello will be the coach of Zebre starting from the 2024/2025 season.

Now it’s official. As part of the press conference to review the international activity of the first months of 2024, the transition of the head coach of the under-20 national team to the helm of the federal franchise was made official, news that only lacked ratification by the federal side.

Alongside Brunello, the transition of assistant Mattia Dolcetto to the Zebre staff was also made official, while the other member of the current Azzurrini technical group, Roberto Santamaria, will take over the role of technical manager of the Italy U20 team.

“Thanks to the Federation for giving me the opportunity to take on this role – commented Brunello, present at the press conference – I am happy and enthusiastic about the challenge, I will put in all the energy I can. It’s a difficult challenge, we all know it, but I trust in everyone’s support and in the strength of the team.”

“I know the kids and I know that together we can do something important, give an even stronger imprint, identity and sense of belonging. We’re going to try to raise the bar and do something important.”

Massimo Brunello and Mattia Dolcetto will close the season with the World Rugby U20 Championship in South Africa before taking up their new roles.

Brunello will turn 57 in June. As a player he was a symbol of Rovigo, with whom he played for 15 years until the 1999/2000 season, and also obtained 8 appearances with the blue shirt. Having started his career as a coach starting from the Bersaglieri youth team, he coached Badia, Rovigo and Calvisano, winning two championships with the Brescians. At the federal level he coached the under-18 national team and, above all, the under-20 one. With the Azzurrini, which he has led since 2020, he achieved the highest number of victories in 2022 and in 2023 the best placing ever in the U20 Six Nations, obtaining at the same time the first ever victory against England and the first victory in France.
