The historic Wolves selection is reborn: 39 players in the squad

On May 13th presentation in the Campidoglio, on June 8th the Central-Southern team returns to the field in Madrid

Since the last match of the Serie A championship, which saw Rugby Roma playing against Civitavecchia, the baton has been passed from Renato Speziali to the Wolvesthe historian selection reborn thanks to the inspiration launched by the bianconeroverde club and collected with happy intuition by the regional committee of the FIR Lazio. Before the Six Nations era, the Wolves were part of the international history of Italian rugby together with the Doges (selection from the Triveneto) and the Zebras (selection by invitation based in Milan).

WOLVES: THE ROADMAP TO MADRID

A squad of around 60 players from which to then select the 23 of the team group, 5 training sessions before departure, presentation in the Capitol on 13 May. This is the roadmap that will lead the reborn Wolves selection to the tournament scheduled for June 8th in Madrid. The historic invitation-only club which represented rugby in the central south between the 70s and the 90s, is reborn on an initiative in this case promoted by Lazio, which will be represented by all the Serie A Elite and Serie A clubs: Fiamme Oro , Civitavecchia, Primavera, Rugby Roma, Lazio, Capitolina and Villa Pamphili.

WOLVES: THE TRAININGS

The group of players selected by the technical and sporting management (Sven Valsecchi and Emanuele Leonardi), together with the team manager Giampiero Mazzi, and who will be directed by Alfredo De Angelis (contemporaneously with his playoff commitments with Lazio) and Daniele Montella, will train twice at Acquacetosa on 7 and 14 May (from 5.30pm), then at a venue yet to be defined on 21 and 28. On 4 June at Tor Pagnotta, home of Rugby Roma, last training session and announcement of the squad. On the 6th we leave for Madrid, on the 8th the Orsi Trophy is played (a sporting initiative dedicated to Italians resident in Spain), on the 9th we return to Rome.

LUPI: “A GEM THAT WILL SHINE AGAIN”

Maurizio Amedei, president of FIR Lazio: “This historic selection has finally come back to life. A rebirth desired by the entire territory and by the regional committee to give young rugby players from Lazio clubs an opportunity for growth at an international level. A group that will take advantage of of a large managerial support staff, which will have to allow the selection to identify the economic resources that can allow its management without affecting the resources of the regional committee. For this purpose, the external relations of the Wolves have been entrusted to Fabrizio Pollak, sporting director of the Rugby Roma. And although we find ourselves today only in the embryonic phase of the project, we already count on the support of two companies, of two passionate entrepreneurs represented by the Bizzaglia Group and ADJ. From a historical and technical point of view, the selection of the Wolves represented in the past a gem in the Italian rugby movement and we want it to return. And from the point of view of building the team, I like to underline the fact that in addition to the Serie A clubs, it was decided to broaden our gaze towards other clubs and those prospects. who, despite playing in lower categories, can represent further resources for the team.” Appointment then with president Amedei, the representatives of the clubs involved, the Wolves staff and the institutions on May 13th at 11 am in the Laudato Si’ room of the Senatorial Palace in the Campidoglio.
