Becoming world number one in Paris is still possible for Jannik Sinner. Rome’s forfeit obviously complicates things, but there is still hope for the Italian to become the first Italian ATP king in history at Roland Garros. The odds will increase or decrease depending on Novak Djokovic’s result at the Foro Italico, with the Serbian being seeded number one and the only one among the top three to take the field at the Internazionali Bnl in Rome. Sinner could even become number one even without playing in Paris, if Djokovic scored less than 915 points between Rome and Roland Garros, but both hypotheses (to date) seem distant. Jannik has only 135 points to spare between Rome and Paris, while Djokovic has 2180 points, a gap that the Balkan champion could shorten at the Forum.
scenario
—
Sinner would be number one at the end of Paris even if he played one more round than Nole from the round of 16 onwards. This is obviously the worst case scenario, that of Djokovic winning in Rome. In the event of Jannik’s final in Paris Nole should repeat the 2023 title and reach at least the semi-final at the Internationals, if the Italian reaches the semi-finals in the French slam Djokovic should win the title in Rome and reach the semi-final in Paris or the final in both the tournaments.
