The Giro d’Italia in Sappada

The Giro d’Italia started today and preparations are underway in Sappada for the stage on May 24th, the Mortegliano-Sappada. It proceeds quickly thanks to FVG Strade the asphalting of the regional road 355 in the municipality of the mountain resort and of the cycle-pedestrian path where the caravan will pass on the route that starts from the former Fasil barracks up to the Baita degli Alpini and then connects to the municipal road that leads to the Church of Santa Margherita.

Meanwhile, the “Together for Sappada” cycle ride on May 18th is being organized in the mountain resort, with a commemorative value, which will take place along the climb that leads to the Piave Sources in memory of the historic date of May 24th. The ride is reserved for a limited number of guests including guests and authorities. Great preparations are also underway for the “Pink Night” on May 23rd: starting from 5pm the central street of Sappada, in the stretch between Borgata Bach and Palù, will be closed to traffic and gastronomic kiosks and musical entertainment are planned, with the shops will be open until late in the evening.

The community is waiting for the big event on May 24th when, for the third time in the last 37 years, the cycling event considered the second most important in the world will arrive in Sappada. ”The Giro d’Italia is an extraordinary opportunity to promote the territory. Sappada – this year’s stage city – will be seen and appreciated, through the spectacular shots that distinguish live television of the Giro, by millions of people and this can only help us grow not only in terms of visibility, but also of tourist presences”, are the words of the councilor for sport and tourism of the Municipality of Sappada Silvio Fauner who, together with the mayor Manuel Piller Hoffer, has worked since 2019 with the late Enzo Cainero, to bring the Giro back to Sappada.
