F1 GP Miami, Verstappen wins the Sprint. Ferrari, Leclerc 2nd over Perez. Sainz finishes 5th

Max Verstappen king of Sprint also in Miami. The Dutchman from Red Bull won the second mini race of the World Championship ahead of Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari and the second Red Bull, that of Sergio Perez. Fourth place for Daniel Ricciardo with the RB, fifth for the second Ferrari of Carlos Sainz junior. Then Piastri, Hulkenberg and Tsunoda closed the top 8 with points. Qualifying will take place at 10pm Italian time to define the pole and the starting line-up for tomorrow’s GP.

the departure

At the start, a very aggressive start for Verstappen, who didn’t get off to a better start than Leclerc and, in order not to risk losing position, he narrowed his trajectory very decisively towards the Ferrari. So at the first corner he was able to turn first ahead of the Monegasque and Ricciardo, who managed to get past Perez’s Red Bull. At the rear, however, disaster for Lando Norris, who ended up outside at the first corner touched by Stroll’s Aston Martin, who in turn was penalized by Alonso’s too impetuous entry. The Safety Car was deployed to remove Norris’ McLaren and remained on the track for a couple of laps. There was also damage to Stroll’s Aston Martin, which was forced to retire.

just one duel

At the restart the group was loose and Verstappen started pushing as usual. Sainz worked hard to attack Ricciardo’s fourth place, passed by Perez, while Leclerc tried not to lose contact with Verstappen. He instead separated himself from Ferrari driver Perez, third. As soon as Verstappen and Perez got into a rhythm, the race for the top positions was essentially reduced to a duel between Sainz and Ricciardo for 4th place. The Australian was very good at defending his position and taking home an excellent placing at the foot of the podium.

magnussen damages hamilton

Sprint to forget for Lewis Hamilton, who after the contact at the start which involved him with Alonso, fought for the entire race with Kevin Magnussen’s Haas. The Dane first caught 10 seconds for cutting the chicane. Then when Hamilton managed to overtake him, in reply to the Englishman he braked very long, forcing Lewis to slow down so as not to hit him. So Magnussen took another 10 second penalty, and as often happens between two litigants, the third wheel arrived Tsunoda who took advantage of Hamilton’s slowdown to take the position from him, eighth place which is the last one that awards points in the Sprint: with Ricciardo’s fourth place at the same time, there was an understandable collective embrace at the checkered flag at RB.
