Jannik Sinner will not play in the Internazionali d’Italia starting on Monday with the draw ceremony at the Trevi Fountain. The latest tests have given negative results, and the hip problem, according to the doctors, requires at least 15 days of rest. It’s too risky to play at the Foro Italico, he would risk compromising the rest of the season and Roland Garros. The summer of tennis is long and Paris, in addition to Roland Garros, also means the Olympics, an event that Jannik cares about very much. After the joys of Davis, in fact, an Olympic medal with the blue shirt is the most coveted thing for the South Tyrolean player. The hip problem had started to make itself felt in Monte Carlo, when at the end of the match with Tsitsipas he had to give in to the pain and surrender in the semi-final. Madrid should have been just a passing stop but, with Djokovic’s absence, the opportunity to go all the way and aim for number 1 at the Foro Italico, in front of his people, perhaps started to creep into his mind. And so he anesthetized the pain with the adrenaline of the conquest but his physique took its toll on him.
