The way men and women are treated is completely different. I’m one of those who raises their voice. I really enjoy watching women’s tennis and women’s sports in general. We deserve better, I think it’s normal to ask for what we deserve.”
Feliciano Lopez responds harshly to Ons Jabeur
Feliciano Lopez – current director of the Madrid tournament – responded to Jabeur’s accusations on Sky Sports. “Certain things shouldn’t have happened last year, but we learned from our mistakes.
We were the first tournament to award the same prize money to men and women. So I don’t think it’s fair to say that we don’t treat men and women equally,” said the former Spanish tennis player. “We’re doing a good job, that’s the important thing.
I understand the frustration with some episodes that can happen – for example with transport – but as far as training is concerned we try to be fair to everyone. I believe everyone should be treated equally. Last year we had some problems with the women’s doubles final and we apologized for that.”
