After the resounding protest with the cry of “Nopetegui”, Julen Lopetegui’s candidacy to become Pioli’s replacement on the Milan bench deflated a bit and other options, certainly more popular with the public, have regained strength; in addition to the various Fonseca, Farioli and Van Bommel, profiles more similar to that of the Basque, those of Thiago Motta and Roberto De Zerbi are tempting among the AC Milan fans (and, undoubtedly, the management of Via Aldo Rossi).
De Zerbi returning?
A product of the Rossoneri youth sector, the Brighton coach is highly appreciated in Europe and has many admirers in Italy; his 4-2-3-1, full of quality and made up of many young and fast players, would be suitable for Milan, a club for which, among other things, he recently expressed his great affection: “It’s not a normal club for me, I grew up with the Rossoneri. I will be grateful to Milan for my whole life.” Will this recognition bring him to the Rossoneri bench soon?
Something has moved
Who knows, but something has certainly moved in the last few hours, also because the situation of the Brescia coach in England has unraveled a bit: few top benches available (Barcelona with Xavi, Liverpool with Slot, Ancelotti remains in Madrid, Luis Enrique remains in Paris, Amorim goes to Chelsea) and the cycle between the Channel Seagulls seems to be moving towards its natural conclusion. The only very controversial issue is that of the release clause of a generous 13 million euros which, if a different agreement is not found, will have to be paid to Brighton to free De Zerbi.
