He spoke on “1 Football Night”, broadcast on 1 Station Radio Giorgio Perinetti, technical director of Avellino. Below is an excerpt from the interview:
If you had to give advice to Manna, for the reconstruction of Napoli, what would you tell him?
“I respect him a lot. I met him, I saw how discreet and competent he is. Fitting into Naples won’t be easy, but he comes from an important school and can do well straight away. We will also need to see what its specific tasks are. He can carve out an important role for himself in the selection and identification of players, which is the role that places him most in the spotlight. Even from a management point of view, however, you need to be equally skilled. A strong presence is needed, particularly in a reality that thrives on football like Naples. Furthermore, after this year’s disappointments, further attention will be needed. I remember my first experience, when I was far outside of a reality that I couldn’t understand. I decided to immerse myself in the aforementioned, and from there things changed”
What market will the Azzurri have?
“I had the honor of working for Napoli, but times are different and from the outside it’s complicated. Only general considerations can be made. I hope that the patron can make the most of this season. What he managed to build was a great achievement, with a very important championship. Confirmation, however, is always very difficult. I’m not saying he approached some things too superficially, but perhaps too confidently. A young but experienced director has been chosen, who will also be able to establish himself in international football. All this, however, must be linked to the technical choice. I hope Manna is part of this decision-making process. I hope that De Laurentiis can be enlightened in the choice which, therefore, must be the right one. Furthermore, Zielinski and Osimhen will have to be replaced, as well as some shoring up. These are operations in which the technician must also participate”
The fans now only expect Antonio Conte. Is he the right man?
“Conte will make all the necessary assessments. Antonio never makes gut choices, he expects agreements to be kept and prefers that his work is not affected. We always talk about Conte in the wrong way. Conte has always built, like at Juventus. A coach who creates value and participates in building the team. The players can’t joke with him, he always offers very demanding work. We are talking about a coach who is an added value for his team. Wherever he goes, he will do well. He is a leader, he wants clarity from society. These are qualities of a coach who always sets himself the goal of winning.”
Have you heard about the Naples hypothesis?
“I felt the Conte family very close to me during this difficult period. However, on issues such as the one in question I prefer not to push it. He is a person who, eventually, chooses to immerse himself in a reality in a very reserved way. So, we haven’t touched on this topic. I think, in my reflection, that Naples is the ideal place for Conte. Antonio lives football with a lot of passion, like the Azzurri fans.”
What do you remember about the victory of the second Italian tricolor?
“The club had the great idea, on the basis of the first experiences, to organize buses with the team, relatives and VIP fans in Pozzuoli. From there, two ships set out to sea, where we were able to celebrate with music and food. In all this, we were able to admire the city’s celebration”
