Pecco Bagnaia returns to the top step of the MotoGP podium, triumphing in Jerez after a duel at the last braking point with Marc Marquez. After two anonymous weekends, the world champion returns to scratch, obtaining a sensational victory that is worth a lot. On the one hand he managed to keep a wild Marquez behind him and on the other he managed to significantly shorten the gap in the world rankings thanks to Jorge Martin’s fall. Now, the Italian pilot is found 17 points from the top of the ranking. Third place finish for Marco Bezzecchi.

At the start, Pecco got off to a great start from the third row, so much so that he was already fourth at the first braking point. The Italian soon had Martin in his sights, immediately giving the feeling that he had more. With 15 laps to go the twist comes with Martin who overdoes it when braking at turn 6 and loses the front. For the Spaniard, a very heavy exit from the world stage.

Bagnaia thus found himself in the lead with a small advantage of about a second over his pursuers. At that point Marquez tries to change pace and after passing Bezzecchi he begins to regain ground on the world champion with fast laps and with 6 laps to go the reunion arrives. But the Piedmontese from Borgo Panigale wasn’t too worried by the Spaniard’s arrival. The last laps are a real show with the public applauding and thanking for the emotions that the two drivers were able to give.

For Bagnaia it was one of his best victories in MotoGP and the feeling is that we will see more challenges with Marquez during the season. At the foot of the podium is Alex Marquez. Enea Bastianini finishes fifth and, taking advantage of Martin’s fall, remains close to the top of the championship as he finds himself 22 points behind. Sixth Brad Binder with the KTM. Only ninth was Vinales with his Aprilia. Acosta finishes tenth and Mir twelfth.

Next meeting in France, May 12th.
