04/28/2024 – Fiorini Pesaro Rugby does not greet its fans with the hoped-for victory. After a first half dominated by the hosts, Valpolicella took home the victory (14-18).

There is a crowd for special occasions at Teknowool Rugby Park for the last home match of the season which sees the Giallorossi Kiwis start with determination but earn the only defensive bonus point. Among the positive notes of the day was the debut in the first team of the young Luca Rossi, a product of the Giallorossi youth team who has already made himself noticed at a national level with numerous appearances with the national youth team.

Fiorini immediately starts attacking, showing grit and determination. Valpolicella reacts by taking the game into the Giallorossi half of the pitch and taking advantage of the greater weight of its scrum. With a touch on the 5m line the guests set up the maul and scored the first try of the day (0-5). Pesaro immediately seeks redemption; he brings the game into the opponent’s area, with a touch on the 5 meter line he gains ground and with a good team play he puts pressure on the Venetian defense. Paletta scores and scores the first Giallorossi goal of the day (7-5). Pesaro takes pleasure in it, steals the ball into touch, and takes the game into the opponents’ area. Larrecharte show, the Giallorossi player catches the ball from Azzolini’s free kick and with a solitary action dribbles past the opposing defense and scores the second try (14-5). Valpolicella is not there and wins a free kick which from the Giallorossi area hits the posts and shortens the distance (14-8).

Valpolicella starts the second half on the attack but Pesaro sends the guests’ attempts back to the sender, bringing the game back to the Venetian half of the field. Valpolicella recovers the ball and brings the game back to the opponent’s area. A whirlwind of changes for the Giallorossi brings Luca Rossi onto the pitch, a young prospect from the Pesaro academy making his first team debut, and reinforces the mix. The Venetians are determined and pressurize the Pesaro defense. The Kiwis remain numerically inferior following a yellow card to Tontini, Valpolicella takes advantage and earns a free kick which further closes the gap (14-11). It’s another yellow card, this time for Joubert, which leaves Pesaro in inferiority again. Fiorini starts attacking again but lacks concreteness, loses the ball and Valpolicella takes advantage of it, gains meters and with a quick game scores the second try which closes the match (14-18).

«A match lost at the last minute, this was not how we wanted to greet the Pesaro fans», the Giallorossi coach Paolo Panzieri does not hide his disappointment. «We earned safety on the pitch but the news of the relegation ban, which arrived on the eve of the match, took away the competitive spirit from the match. This is news that is not good for the spirit of the players. We had to honor the match and we didn’t do it to the end. The last action is the mirror of the last few weeks, we gave up and it didn’t do us any good. We believed ourselves stronger than we were and came back down to earth. Among today’s positive notes is the debut of Luca Rossi. It’s always nice when a boy makes it all the way from the youth team to make his debut in Serie A. Among the things that didn’t work today were definitely the touches, but this defeat is the result of our mental attitude. They were hungrier than us and they showed it. On Sunday we will close the championship away at Tarvisium, we will give space to those who have played less and we will do other experiments.”
