URC: the chase for the playoffs with 3 days to go

The 15th day of the URC is over. It opened on Friday 26 April with Benetton’s defeat in Belfast against Ulster and ended on Saturday 27 April with Connacht’s important away victory on the Dragons’ pitch.

As regards the race for the playoffs, the teams competing for a place in the post-season are enclosed in four points: Connacht, Ulster and Benetton, currently in sixth, seventh and eighth place in the general classification, are all on 44 points .

Immediately behind the hot zone there are two teams that can absolutely have their say with three days left in the regular season: Edinburgh, ninth with 43 points, and Ospreys tenth with 40 points.

URC: the playoff race is still open

The top of the class changes in the lead. The victory of the Glasgow Warriors over the Zebre and the simultaneous defeat of Leinster against the Stormers led the Scots to overtake the Dublin team. Munster and Bulls follow firmly in third and fourth place, with the Stormers trying to break away from the contenders for the last three playoff places on 45 points.

Among these there is certainly Benetton Rugby, which after the home victory against the Dragons was unable to repeat itself at Ulster, its direct opponent for the post-season. From this perspective, the two bonus points collected by the green and whites in Belfast were fundamental and could be useful at the end of the season.

Marco Bortolami’s team is awaiting, after the semi-final of the Challenge Cup, two complicated away games in South Africa: the first at home to the Sharks, out of any question of qualification, the second against the Bulls who are just three points away from second place in Leinster.

Treviso will close the United Rugby Championship in Monigo with Edinburgh, another team chasing a place in the playoffs. The good news for the Venetian team is that the calendar of two of their direct opponents, Connacht and Ulster, is not easy. The Galway Greens will have Munster away, Stormers at home and Leinster away in order. The Northern Irish, after the away match against the Scarlets, will face Leinster at home and Munster away.
