Gianmarco Pozzecco is an explosive character, likeable and always frank in his statements, both with his players and with the press. He was as a player and still is as coach of the Italian national basketball team which will be involved in the pre-Olympic tournament in Puerto Rico where it will face the hosts and Bahrain.

If Poz and his team were to secure a pass to Paris 2024, they would end up in the group with Team USA, Serbia and South Sudan. But speaking of national teams, Gianmarco Pozzecco recently ironically “launched” himself on Italian rugby, somehow cursing – but at the same time flattering – the progress made by the team led by Gonzalo Quesada.

The Sheet reported statements from the former Varese Basketball player who with his usual irony commented on the Azzurri’s victories: “I’m pissed off at the rugby coach Quesada. I’m used to the fact that De Giorgi’s national volleyball and Campagna water polo teams win, I relied on rugby but now they win too.”

The 51-year-old from Gorizia, silver medalist at the 2004 Olympics, has always captured everyone’s attention with his witty and sometimes extreme behaviour, but perhaps thanks to these behaviors he was and is one of the most loved and appreciated sporting personalities. It is no coincidence that, speaking of the national basketball team, he closed the statements with his usual sarcastic streak: “We are the only losers left!”.
