A semi-final that had been missing for 7 years in Viadana and the team, the fans, the country, were not caught unprepared.
An atmosphere of times gone by, the one that could be felt at the Zaffanella with over 3000 spectators who filled the stands, returning the Stadium to its ancient splendors. Two sets of fans lined up with the boys who filled, coloured, cheered incessantly throughout the match. And then the team, also dressed to the nines. A first half in which Colorno was beaten on every front: Pavan’s yellow and black played the perfect game, a frenetic pace with the red and white who remained to watch. Ball after ball, cleaning after cleaning, ruck after ruck, the yellow and blacks racked up metres, tries and points, closing the first half with a heavy 22-3 in their favour.
In the second half Colorno tried to raise his head, but Pavan’s boys were able to counter every action, the only glimmer of hope was Lovotti’s goal in the 78th minute, after a yellow card for Locatelli for a high tackle, which seemed to have ended all hopes of the team gialloneri to score the fourth try. And instead… Centurion Denti, who in this very match celebrated his 200th appearance with Viadana, wanted that goal in front of his fans. We are in the 80th minute, with the Gialloneri attacking in the midfield, some dirty balls but still advanced, we reach 22 meters with the hooker from Casalasco, but from Viadano by adoption, deployed on the wing. They pass him the ball, he fakes the pass and slips between Colorno’s shirts, pushes with his legs and scores the try that closes the game and gives Viadana the victory, and the five points, in the first championship semi-final.
The celebration explodes, well deserved for Viadana, because this victory was achieved by everyone together.
Now head to the next semi-final which will be played, again at Zaffanella, on Saturday 11 May against Valorugby Emilia at 5pm.
