Carlos Alcaraz made his debut in the Masters 1000 in Madrid, easily beating the Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko in two sets with a score of 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour of play. A very good performance for the world number three who returned to the field after missing the Monte Carlo and Barcelona tournaments due to injury.

These are the declarations at the end of the game: “I think I did pretty well, honestly. For the last month I’ve only practiced slices, volleys and backhands, so I think everything worked well today. I was trying to hit the forehand softer, let’s say, and try to be aggressive with the backhand and get to the net as soon as possible. I think I played an excellent match in this sense.”

Obviously all attention was on about the condition of his right arm: “I wasn’t in pain, but I thought about it the whole time. I don’t think it will slip my mind. This week I did good things in training, hitting harder, but I don’t feel comfortable playing my forehand 100%. Playing at this level makes me very happy. I think I can be competitive.”

In the next round for Alcaraz there will be a very interesting challenge with the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wildwho overcame Lorenzo Musetti with a double 6-4, opening the crisis for the Tuscan tennis player.
