In this MotoGP weekend in Jerez there is another much awaited and much supported protagonist: Dani Pedrosa. In FP1 he was the best KTM rider, then in the pre-qualifying session he failed to finish in the top 10 (fourteenth time) and therefore will have to face Q1 of Qualifying. In the afternoon he suffered a fall and was unable to improve his time. However, he should not be underestimated, even if his main purpose is to provide useful data to the team for the development of the RC16.

MotoGP Jerez, Pedrosa talks about his day

The three-time world champion remains confident for the rest of the weekend: “I had a small crash in turn 2 – he explained to Motosan.es – and it happened with the bike I felt good with. I had some problems with the other one, it didn’t go like the first one let’s say. It was difficult for me to try to recover and do a good lap. Things didn’t go perfectly, we’ll try to recover tomorrow. We’ve gathered some information on what we did wrong and will try again“.

Having crashed with my “favorite” bike was a problem, he didn’t have the same feeling with the other one. On Saturday he will try not to make mistakes and improve, even if we will have to pay attention to the uncertain weather: “From what I see – tells – it might even rain. I don’t know how much, but it might rain in the morning. Therefore, we could find a wet track or in any case not with the same conditions as today. We will see. First we have to think about qualifying, we will see where we will be on the grid and what we can do in the Sprint“.

The work of Dani and Acosta

Pedrosa explained that today in Jerez he didn’t just do test rider work: “We are trying to prepare the bike. When you get on the track with drivers of this level, you have to have a day as a driver. At the same time we encountered some problems with the bike, so we will gather the information and see what to do. It wasn’t frustrating because of the things I tried, but because of the adjustments we had to make because one bike wasn’t the same as the other. This bothered us a bit‘”.

It is inevitable that he is asked about Pedro Acosta, who followed him in both sessions to learn something useful and who is the only one from the KTM family to have gained direct access to Q2: “Pedro is a very good time – comments Dani – and it’s showing that the bike works very well. This is good for us. Binder crashed with the last tyre, maybe he could have improved. I can’t say more“.
