Nowadays there is a lot of talk about hybrid cars, but not all of them are the same. Let’s try to discover the differences.

Electrification is at the center of all discussions regarding the car market nowadays, with a great variety of technologies and vehicles being offered by car manufacturers. Europe’s goal is to only allow the sale of full electric cars from 2035 onwardseffectively banning heat engines.

Hybrids will also see their production stop if things don’t change, and much of this will depend on the possible growth in sales of BEVs, which are certainly not impressive at the moment. The high prices of electric cars do not attract customerswho prefer to focus on petrol or hybrid engines, which instead obtain excellent feedback.

For those who aren’t aware, There are many different types of hybrid engines, and it is no longer like a few years ago, when no differentiations were made between these technologies. In the next lines, we will tell you about a difference that is essential to know if you are about to buy a hybrid car, and it is good to be informed about everything.

Cars, here are the differences between hybrids

Non-rechargeable hybrid cars can be divided into two different types, namely Mild Hybrids and Full Hybrids. In Mild Hybrids, the electric motor only supports the combustion engine, and can only be useful at low speeds in the city, making it not so easy to reduce consumption and CO2 emissions. However, Mild Hybrid cars are also the least expensive, which is why they are selling like hotcakes.

Instead, in Full Hybrids the electric motor is independent from the combustion engine, and allows the car to move for several distances without having to use the combustion part. Prices, however, are starting to become higher, but it must be said that on the consumption front you will benefit a lot, given that the savings, in this sense, are felt much more. We talked a little while ago about rechargeable hybrid, which is a very different technology from Mild and Full Hybrid, and now we will discover it.

Rechargeable hybrid cars are better known as Plug-In Hybrid, which means that they are equipped with an external power socket through which to charge the battery. They are much more similar, in this sense, to full electrics, and have a much larger battery and electric motor than the two types we described earlier.

Some Plug-In Hybrids can travel up to 100 km with just the electric motor running, allowing for large savings in terms of consumption. However, these cars are very expensive and in fact their market share has collapsed, and goes hand in hand with that of full electrics. We will see if the state incentives will allow them to return to obtaining good results like some time ago, but it is clear that the purchase costs are not that easy.
